Ecological Citizenship at GSA

Professor Elio Caccavale leads this module, aiming to enrich Every Tree Tells a Story  by investigating how designerly approaches can enhance civic engagement and foster ecological citizenship through Glasgow’s urban treescapes.
Students explore how trees might be more meaningfully integrated into urban life to promote wellbeing, environmental awareness, and social cohesion.

GCU Walk & Talk + Postcard Workshop

Every tree can tell us a story, whether it is a personal memory, historical fact or a legend long forgotten…

To celebrate the Glasgow Goes Green 2026 sustainability festival, the Glasgow Caledonian University’s Sustainability Team together with the Every Tree Tells a Story project invited GCU students, staff and visitors to join a walk around the University to learn about the history, biodiversity and green spaces of Glasgow campus through the stories that trees can tell us. The event took place on March 4th, 2026 in 2 parts: 12 – 1pm – walk & talk around campus – 1pm – 2pm – workshop in the Sir Alex Ferguson Library.

The workshop aimed to showcase past cards, gather some new postcard stories, and explain how GCU has adapted ETTAS as a core Sustainability Event.

Play in Raigmore

Every Tree cards were used within a free and fun community engagement on play in the Raigmore area of Inverness, from 19th – 21st February, 2026. The event was supported by Highland Council, Thrive Outdoors, Actify, and Inspiring Scotland, and attended by families, babies and toddlers, nursery and primary age children.

The cards let us to acknowledge the fundamental role of nature in our developing sense of place (and fun!). Cards led to some good discussion about trees in general and local trees in particular.
